Steve blusters at Brock’s response, knowing full well the man is making fun of him already and he has no way to counter it. Cheeks puff a little before he lets out a small huff and finds himself chuckling as they drop hands, allowing the comment to run off of him just the same as Brock has already moved on.
He ends up nodding even though the other man, to start, sounds like he’s not all that interested in training after all. Steve’s about to let him off the hook when the brunet breaks the silence instead, and Steve blinks.
He finds himself a little bewildered - rarely is it that somebody manages to compliment his serum-given skills without sounding awed by them, or enamored with them. Steve stares after the brunet in confusion as he keeps walking, though it’s a pleasant feeling that’s settling in his bones. He lifts his hand in a belated wave.
“Yeah, tomorrow,” he calls after the man finally, though he confusion is still probably evident in his tone. He’s smiling lightly, at the very least, and makes a mental note to clear his 1 o'clock for tomorrow.
brock does regret moving the pace along like that, but he’s sure Steve’s used to people talking and then moving along rather quickly. it is the way of missions, anyways, huh? he probably should’ve paid more attention to steve’s answer, but he’s already down the hall, walking towards the exit to get outside.
he shows up for work just like normal the next day, going through the work day and getting that time slot opened up at one for some training with Cap. if he doesn’t show, brock could still use the time for himself, so it won’t be a waste really.
shuffling around, brock busies himself with filling his water bottle, making sure everything was clean before training, nobody wants to slip on a wet mat, huh? and he even got himself a snack. a nice, crunchy granola bar. the kind covered in chocolate. and it’s all followed down with water. lots and lots of water while he waits.
and he’s old, so he stretches out, hopefully before Cap gets here to see how damn old he is. well, not…old…everyone should stretch. it’s better to stretch. maybe he got here a little too early, maybe he was excited to exchange quips with the captain, make things a little more comfortable. He was looking forward to it.
